When it comes to treating your cancer, you want to choose a treatment center with the most experience, the highest level of expertise – and a cancer center that’s dedicated to its patients.
So, if your treatment calls for radiation, get in touch with the experts at the CyberKnife Center of Miami.
“This is what we do all day, every day. We know what can and cannot be treated,” says Dr. Mark Pomper, board-certified radiation oncologist and medical director of CyberKnife Miami.
CyberKnife Miami is the leading radiation cancer treatment center in South Florida — with the most experience – where our patients are not treated as statistics.
“I think it’s the most common comment I get from patients is that ‘you probably have no idea how good your staff is.’ They take a potentially frightening experience and make it a warm and friendly one,” says Dr. Pomper, when asked what sets CyberKnife Miami apart as a dedicated cancer center.
“We answer their (patients’) questions, give them comfort, reassurance, and always extend that line of communication because that’s a big part.” says CyberKnife Miami’s chief patient coordinator, Maria Kristina Borgen. “We’re always there for them, whatever they need.”
Our patients are your moms, dads, siblings, children and friends, and we take that responsibility seriously. Just ask our patients.
Brother Beats Prostate Cancer and Sister Beats Liver Cancer
Siblings Mike and Liz believe they’re alive today thanks to CyberKnife Miami.
Mike was diagnosed with prostate cancer over a decade ago and opted for CyberKnife.
“If you get cancer go to CyberKnife Miami to see if you’re a candidate for CyberKnife radiation therapy. The way they treat you is unbelievable. Like no other medical center. And the treatment is so easy. I had no side effects and, even after all these years, it’s like I never had cancer.” Mike says.
His success story likely saved his sister, Liz, too.
She was diagnosed with colon cancer but opted for surgery and chemotherapy. Yet her cancer returned three years later and spread – this time to her liver.
“There’s no way I’m doing six months of chemo again, it was hell,” Liz says so she opted for CyberKnife radiation therapy like her brother did a decade ago.
Mike called CyberKnife Miami for Liz and spoke to the team.
“I drove Liz there for her evaluation, and everyone welcomed her and me again with open arms. I told Liz, you’re in good hands. I’d go to the end of the earth to get her to CyberKnife Miami,” Mike says “And she couldn’t have gotten a better result. I told Liz, CyberKnife was a lifesaver for me, and it will be for you too.”
“I don’t think I’d be alive today if it wasn’t for CyberKnife Miami. They saved me,” Liz says.
CyberKnife Treatment for Cancer
CyberKnife uses a noninvasive, state-of-the-art radiation treatment system for cancerous and non-cancerous tumors and other medical problems. The technology, called stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), delivers radiation directly to a tumor, leaving healthy surrounding tissue and vital organs nearby unharmed.
“Because we are so precise in our treatment and we can minimize the dose to surrounding tissue, our side effects are minimal,” says Dr. Pomper.
CyberKnife treats cancers of the prostate, liver, lungs, kidneys, pancreas, head and neck, lymph nodes and brain as well as other metastatic cancers and medical conditions like trigeminal neuralgia where radiation may be needed.
Experience with CyberKnife Matters
In South Florida, CyberKnife Miami has the most experience. We opened 23 years ago as the first CyberKnife center in the Southeast.
Since that time, we have treated thousands of patients.
“A lot of medical or cancer centers that have CyberKnife technology don’t have as much experience as we have using it. So, they get scared when they see a big tumor and think it is not worth treating or are worried about complications.Other doctors feel if it’s incurable why be aggressive? We feel the opposite. We feel you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.” explains Dr. Pomper.
And that’s another advantage of CyberKnife Miami. We know how to treat tough cases as well as more simplistic ones.
CyberKnife Treatment Miami
Cancer patients and their loved ones tell us just picking up the phone to make that first call is terrifying. At many hospitals and clinics, the first point of contact for patients is a scheduler who has no idea how hard the call was to make, or even worse – the patient winds up speaking to voicemail.
Not at CyberKnife Miami. We answer every call we can.
“You almost always get a live person on the phone,” says Maria Kristina Borgen, the patient coordinator and manager at CyberKnife Miami. “And if we’re busy, which happens, we call you right back as soon as we can. We know how scary a cancer diagnosis is. Being compassionate is a must from the first call all the way through to your last treatment, and beyond. We follow up with patients, even years later to see how they are doing.”
Maria Kristina adds, “We help our patients and their families get through every aspect of their treatment, including getting scans done, insurance questions and scheduling. We work hard to coordinate your care so you can focus on recovery and getting back to your life, with the least disruption to your life.”
