Key Aspects of the CyberKnife Miami Team’s Experience
Pioneering Status: CyberKnife Miami was the first CyberKnife center in the southeastern U.S. and the eleventh in the nation, opening its doors in 2003.
Extensive Expertise: The team has treated thousands of patients since soon after CyberKnife was FDA-approved in 2001, accumulating decades of experience.
Specialized Professionals: The core team consists of highly trained Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and Radiation Therapists, who work in conjunction with private practice and affiliated surgeons.
International Training Role: The team’s extensive experience is recognized globally, leading to their role in training medical teams at other CyberKnife centers worldwide.
The center was founded by Dr. James G. Schwade, and some 20 years later Dr. Mark E. Pomper took over the reins and now serves as the Executive Director and Medical Director, both doctors being renowned board certified radiation oncologists with significant experience in Stereotactic Radiosurgery.
Dr. Pomper was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top cancer doctor in the nation for more than 20 years.
Dr. James G. Schwade: The retired founder of the CyberKnife Center of Miami and an internationally recognized radiation oncologist, was selected as an ASTRO Fellow for his significant service in the field of radiation oncology.
Dr. Alan Perlmutter: Also a board-certified radiation oncologist and member of the medical team is recognized too for providing compassionate, communicative, and top-notch cancer care.
Mario Tobon: The Top Chief Radiation Therapist, is described by patients as “amazing” and among the most experienced and knowledgable worldwide. He is also nationally board-certified in multiple specialties.
Maria Kristina Borgen: Director of Operations and Chief Patient Coordinator is the heart of the cancer center. She takes all the time you need to answer patients most FAQ’s about what to expect from CyberKnife treatment when coming to our cancer center from start to finish.
She helps set up their treatment schedule, work with their insurance companies, and helps patients get necessary scans and tests if necessary.
Being told you have cancer and need radiation therapy can be scary, but our Maria and the entire team is here to make the process as easy as possible from start to finish.
Collaborative Care: An open-staff facility allows your own physicians to collaborate with the CyberKnife Miami team, ensuring a customized treatment plan
