Latest Breakthroughs in Cancer Treatment & Newest CyberKnife Clinical Trials

Every year and with each new breakthrough in cancer treatment, more and more patients are beating their diseases, surviving longer, and living with fewer long-term side effects because of improved cancer treatments.

Cancer patients treated with CyberKnife are living proof – literally.

The name, CyberKnife, is misleading because it is not a knife at all, however like a knife, it cuts out cancer.  It’s really a state-of-the art, noninvasive radiation treatment system for cancerous and non-cancerous tumors that essentially kills the cancer without harming healthy surrounding tissue because of its pinpoint precision.

According to Accuray, the maker of CyberKnife, there are two decades of clinical proof that CyberKnife “delivers excellent cancer control with reduced risk of side effects for cancer types throughout the body.”

On Accuray’s website, there is an extensive list of the most current and former clinical trials with scientific evidenced-based results using CyberKnife for lung, liver, brain, prostate, pancreas, spine, and kidney cancers.

A quick search using the key word “CyberKnife” on Clinicaltrials.gov, the National Institutes of Health’s government database of clinical trials, shows nearly 50 completed studies with CyberKnife and more than 60 that are currently recruiting.

Recruiting trials include studies for breast, liver, lung, brain, and pancreatic cancers.

Breast cancer is just one example where of a lot of research and studies have been ongoing and new one’s are starting for CyberKnife.

“Breast cancer is an area where women really need to find out what their options are because CyberKnife is an amazing option, which has not been fully exploited.” Says Dr. Mark Pomper, board-certified radiation oncologist and medical director of the CyberKnife Center of Miami on CyberKnife Miami’s YouTube Channel.

CyberKnife can treat breast cancer with one-to-five radiation sessions instead of the typical 32 treatments with other types of radiation technology.

CyberKnife has been used for more than 10 years for breast cancer and according to Dr. Pomper, the success rate is very high in early breast cancer – it’s especially helpful and safer for cancers being treated with radiation that are close to the heart and lungs and for women with smaller breasts.

CyberKnife’s robotic technology moves with the patient as they breathe normally, so it targets and hits only the cancer site and leaves healthy breast tissue and those nearby vital organs like the heart and lungs unharmed.

Breakthroughs in Cancer Treatment

While CyberKnife has been FDA approved for more than 20 years and hundreds of thousands of patients have been successfully treated worldwide with it, it’s not available everywhere and many doctors aren’t aware of it, or if they are, may not recommend it because their medical facility doesn’t have the technology.

The good news is, that’s changing as more patients now know about the benefits of CyberKnife and are asking for the treatment instead of other treatments.

Plus, medical centers can no longer justify making patients go through 30 or more radiation treatments, for things like prostate and breast cancer when CyberKnife is just as effective, is safer, and can be done in one-to-five treatment sessions.

“CyberKnife is the most sophisticated and refined way to treat most tumors,” says Dr. Pomper on CyberKnife Miami’s YouTube Channel.

Dr. Pomper has been using CyberKnife to treat patients since 2004. CyberKnife Miami has been treating patients in South Florida and around the world for two decades.

I feel it is my mission to try to help patients understand that cancer is not a death sentence. We have many weapons to help battle this disease and CyberKnife is one of the most powerful,” Dr. Pomper says.

When patients are looking for a cancer treatment center – especially a treatment center offering CyberKnife, experience counts.

CyberKnife Miami

At CyberKnife Miami, we treat patients who have been turned away from other centers and told there is nothing more that can be done. That’s because we have the expertise, experience, and know-how to actually help these patients.

“A lot of medical or cancer centers that have CyberKnife technology don’t have as much experience as we have using it. So, they get scared when they see a big tumor and think it is not worth treating or are worried about complications. Other doctors feel if it’s incurable why be aggressive?” explains Dr. Pomper.

But CyberKnife Miami is different because of our years of experience, we think why not treat it. We’ve seen it work when patients were told by other doctors, it won’t work. Our philosophy is, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain, including the precious gift of life.

“This is what we do all day, every day. We know what can and cannot be treated,” Dr. Pomper adds. That is just part of the CyberKnife Miami advantage.

We stay at the forefront of all CyberKnife breakthroughs. We arm our patients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions.  And we work with each patient to make sure each and every one of them receives the best treatment possible.
