CyberKnife Treatment Success Rate

When it comes to cancer treatments and success rates, we need to remember that success can mean different things to different people.

The ultimate goal of cancer treatment is to live disease free.

But success can also mean fewer long and short-term side effects, more effective treatments, less pain from treatment and even being able to maintain your quality of life during treatment.

CyberKnife — a state-of-the art, noninvasive radiation treatment system – offers all these benefits, and it can successfully treat cancers of the prostate, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, lymph nodes and brain as well as metastatic cancers.

Brain Cancer Success Rates

Accuray, the maker of CyberKnife, tracks all clinical trials where CyberKnife is involved. According to its website, CyberKnife has promising results when used for brain cancer:

“In a clinical study of 333 patients using the CyberKnife System to treat tumor metastases to the brain, more than 85 percent of evaluable patients achieved local tumor control at two years post treatment. That is, the tumor either decreased in size or stopped growing,” Accuray reports.

“A clinical study of 199 patients whose lesions were unsuitable for treatment with surgery and/or a portion of the lesion remained after surgery found that more than 92 percent of patients either experienced stabilization or a significant improvement of their symptoms following treatment with the CyberKnife System,” the company says.

Prostate Cancer Success Rates

CyberKnife as a treatment for prostate cancer shows high success rates. Accuray reports that for low-risk patients the disease-free five-year survival rates are between 97% and 100%. For intermediate risk patients the rate is between 88% and 97%. And at 10 years the disease-free survival rate is 93% for low-risk patients.

Liver Cancer Success Rates

According to Accuray: The “overall survival at the one-year follow-up was 78.5 percent and at the two-year follow-up was 50.4 percent” for patients with liver cancer.

And a study of 75 liver cancer patients treated with CyberKnife found that after two years 89.8% of patients showed no progression of cancer beyond the liver.

Lung Cancer Success Rates

According to Translational Lung Cancer Research, a 2017 study of elderly patients with presumed primary stage I lung cancer who were treated with CyberKnife showed the 1, 3, and 5-year cancer-specific survival rates of 100%, 81.3% and 67% respectively.

Kidney Cancer Success Rates

According to the experts at the CyberKnife Center of Miami – a cancer treatment center in South Florida – as the first-line treatment for kidney cancer, CyberKnife can achieve local control in 90% of patients with the median follow-up time of 18 months. Radicular pain has been relieved in 25-85% of patients.

The CyberKnife Advantage

CyberKnife’s unique guidance technology enables the SBRT to track a tumor’s movement in real time. The technology delivers radiation directly to the tumor, while leaving healthy surrounding tissue unharmed. This way it can deliver the highest dose of radiation possible. With CyberKnife, patients need a shorter course of treatment than with traditional radiation because SBRT is targeted radiation.

CyberKnife has been used for more than three decades and studied in hundreds of clinical trials. It has helped hundreds of thousands of patients – even patients who were told they could not have more radiation, or their tumors were inoperable.

To sum it up: Here are the key benefits from cancer treatment with CyberKnife:

  • Excellent control of tumors
  • Lower risk of damage to healthy tissue
  • Better quality of life while undergoing treatment
  • Fewer treatments than with traditional radiation
  • Most areas of the body can receive multiple treatments with CyberKnife, and areas can be retreated.
